Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) stints on BPL funds for family planning operations

Vidya Santosh Zombade, who was unaware of any compensations for the family planning operations had to pay the fees completely when admitted in Sassoon General Hospital.
None of the medical authoritiies at the Sassoon Medical Hospital have informed Vidya, who hails from a family below the poverty line, regarding the compensation that she was eligible for after she underwent the family planning operation. The mother-in-law said that she knew about the compensation from the workers there but availing the compensation was not an option they could figure out.
Seeta Sonar was also faced with a similar problem when she had a similar procedure performed on her. Her mother in law had tried to approach several officials but in vain. Nurses said that the PMC clerk who had to verify and provide the compensation was not in the place anymore. Several hundreds of people have been denied of the small financial help that could mean a lot to the below poverty line families.
Dr.Anjali Sabne who was the medical officer in charge of the funds distribution elucidated that the scheme of Pune Municipal Corporation allowed a compensation of Rs1500 for Vasectomies which included fees to the Doctors, Nurses and Rs.1000 for women to provide encouragement. When questioned about the clerk she said she was unaware about the where abouts of the clerk who was supposed to be at Sassoon GH.
