Afghan boutique hotel seiged by suicide bombers

Afghanistan faced another wrath of three Taliban suicide bombers taking seige of a hotel at Qargha Lake on the outskirts of the Afghan capital. The guests gathered were celebrating an event when the bombers held them hostage. As per latest reports the seige occurred around 11:30 pm (1900 GMT) on Thursday. The bombers are armed with rockets and Kalashnikov rifles stormed a gathering at the Spozhmai Hotel. Nearly 20 Afghans and 3 US soldiers are suspected to be killed when one of the bombers had blown self.

Kabul deputy police chief Daoud Amin said that according to hotel guards, there were three attackers inside the hotel, as well as numerous civilians. "Currently, police forces have besieged the hotel where people gathered for a picnic or wedding party," he told AFP. "We will start the operation against them soon and we will be very careful so that not to harm to civilians."Qargha lies around 10 kilometres (six miles) from central Kabul and its pleasant weather and greenery make it a popular picnic spot for daytrippers from the capital. The lake is surrounded by hotels, restaurants and wedding halls.

The Qargha assault came comes on heals of the announcement made by the President Hamid Karzai, that the extremists attacking civilians will be severely dealt. The NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) that are assisting the Afghan  security forces in controlling the Taliban infested region is scheduled to leave the place in 2014. The attack might again instill fears of security in the country as ISAF pulls out its 130,000 odd tropps from the region. (With inputs from internet-AarKay)
