The National Democratic Alliance has called for a nation wide bandh on May 31 against the steep hike in petrol prices in the country. The increase of fuel prices came in as a shock to many people across the country who vented out their anger in the form of posts and messages on social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter.

While some commented that they would switch to bicycles, a few severely took on the Centre for burdening middle class with petrol prices. Meanwhile, the opposition parties are lashing out at the Centre and demanding the Centre for rolling back the prices.

Notably, the seven rupee increase per litre is first of its kind in India. Earlier, the maximum hike was five rupees per litre and that was also a step taken by the present government. The news came in within a day after the oil minister Jaipal Reddy indicated the necessity to increase oil prices citing the depreciation of rupee in the international market.

Will Centre come under the pressure of the opposition parties and roll down its prices? A million dollar question for sure!
