Angered over frequent power cuts in Tamil Nadu, the people in the state are reportedly attacking the field men of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB). A TNEB official has said that the instances of attacks on the field staff have been increasing. The official, who denied to reveal his name, has also said that the field staff has nothing to do with the power cuts.
Answering to a question on how attacks take place, the official has said that minor arguments on power cuts often turn into major argument and will lead to a fuss. In fact, a few people even locked up the field staff members in a room at Anna Salai when the employees of electricity board approached the place to fix the problem last week. The employees finally ended up staging a protest stating the even the police failed to look into the problem.
Although Tamil Nadu Electricity Board officials claim that earlier such incidents didn’t take place because of the good rapport between field men and local people, the residents in many areas are reportedly angered only due to frequent power cuts and that too in summer. Blame it the increasing mercury levels or the apathetic attitude of the electricity department, the experts are of the opinion that the government should look into the problem and understand the summer blues of the people in Tamil Nadu.
