If you are a chain smoker and often hold the butt of a burning cigarette between your fingers while walking down the busy lanes then Bangalore might not be a city that would appeal you anymore as Garden City Police are all set to put a check for public smoking.

A notice in this regard has been issued to all the police stations and the cops are asked to implement the anti-smoking in public areas rule efficiently. As per the notice, every police station in the city has apparently some specific targets. The senior police officials, however, denied that they set any targets while subordinates claim that they had been pressurized to slap fines against the offenders.

It may be noted that every other person in Bangalore smokers, while some exhale smoke as a habit many of them hold smoke for fashion. More than 50 per cent of smokers who appear on road exhaling smoke are college-goers.

The cops are now fining the ones who are found smoking in public in Garden City. This rule has been strictly observed in places like Ooty.  It’s presumably a good move from the police to fine the public smokers as smoking in public not only damages the environment but also causes severe inconvenience to the public.
