Its seclusion is a pleasant contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city. The flora that creates picturesque views, also supports an exotic wildlife which includes crocodiles, wild boars, leopards, jackals and deers. The area also has a number of beautiful birds one can spot. One can visit Mekedatu, Sangam, Kokrebellur Pelicanry and a number of fishing camps in the area.

HOW TO REACH:

- From Bangalore: Take the national highway (NH) to reach Halagur Village via Kanakpura. Reaching the village, take the village road that takes you to Bheemeshwari via Muthati. The nearest airport and railhead is in Bangalore.

1) Cauvery Fishing Camp

Fulfil your wishes at Cauvery Fish Camp by camping under the star-studded skies in front of a campfire emitting its warmth. Relax on the serene riverbank and wait for the barbeque to be ready. One can even spot rear birds and animals All this seem like far away dream when you live in a city.

It is an abode to more than 200 species of birds like the grey-headed fish eagle, pied crested cuckoo, darter, etc., and mammals like the Sambar spotted deer, jackals, leopard, elephants and the extinct grizzled giant squirrel. With its giant rocks and hilly terrain, the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary is an ideal place for trekking as well as other activities.

How to Reach Cauvery Fishing Camp

The camp is 100 km from Bangalore via the route Bangalore - Kanakapura (55 km) - left to Sathnur (15 km) and Muthathi (25 km) road. It is only 5 km from Muthathi. It is advised not to use the public transport, instead drive yourself or hire a taxi to the camp.

Activities at Cauvery Fishing Camp

Feel your stress fading away in the flow of the pristine river while rafting, fishing or just dipping your feet in the water. Lose yourself in the scenic landscapes of the quiet nature and mesmerising sunsets. The 6-hour trek around the surroundings of Basavana Betta gives you a panoramic view of the Cauvery River. There are also treks of shorter duration.

Accommodation and Food

Keeping in mind the ecology, the Camp has only eight ethnic log huts. For people who prefer to live by the river and closer to nature, there are ten well-furnished tented cottages with attached bathrooms. There are other types of accommodations available too. The Ghol-ghar, a gazebo is the dining area for the guests. There are relaxing hammocks and an adventurous tumbling net and a high Machan for recreational purposes. Stuff yourself to the fullest with the sumptuous buffet of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine.

Tips

The forest is in all its glory during the monsoon. Otherwise, the water recedes, leaving behind extensive sand banks where one can lay back in the serene surroundings. The period between September and February is the perfect time to visit here since the climate is pleasant and it is a paradise for bird watchers.

The Galibore Fishing Camp is in the thick, luscious forests of Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. Located just over two hours from the cosmopolitan city of Bangalore, it is the perfect escape from the bustling city life. Nature lovers can enjoy the gorgeous view of the gushing Cauvery River over jagged rocks.

The Camp is secluded from any habitation for miles around, and hence, it is easy to hear the melodic chirping of the birds and the whistling of the wind. The Camp is named after a windy hillock, Galibore which is located right across the camp itself. For people who wish to have absolute privacy, Galibore camp is the perfect getaway, since it is hidden from the rest of the world by the trees lining the river.  

How To Reach Galibore Fishing Camp

It is 110 km from Bangalore via the Bangalore - Kanakapura (55 km) route. Take a left from the 2nd circle towards Sangam (35 km). The camp is 9 km from there. It is advised not to use the public transport, instead drive here yourself or hire a taxi to the camp.

Activities at Galibore Fishing Camp

One is bound to be occupied doing numerous activities here. Of which, the coracle rides in the river are a must. Go hiking in the jungle but also laze around in the hammocks, just outside your tent, under the luscious green canopy by the riverbank. Take a walk along the riverbank to distress yourself. The riverbank is a heaven for the bird watchers. Feel adventurous climbing the safe tumbling net.

Accommodation and Food

The camp has a ten tented cottages with attached bath. These cabins come with 24 hours electricity and hurricane/solar lamps. However, the guests are not deprived of the fresh and clear night air. Tuck in delicious meals (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian) in the gazebo, aka Gol-ghar, with a camp fire lit beside or even a barbeque if you wish.
