Fake groom lures brides, siphons off funds

This high profile bridegroom from Mumbai hitches on the Matrimony sites and informs that he is from NASA and is due for a Nobel Prize.

Have you ever had a chance to talk to a fake imposter, this is a story unearthed at Mumbai where a 45-year-old man who cheat on gullible aged brides on matrimony sites with all false promises. Thus cheated brides would finally end up in a meeting which the accused would tactfully handle as a Scientist working for NASA and also assure them that he was due for a Nobel Prize. He had a couple of photos with President Obama to substantiate his claims. Later would coax them to invest in a lucrative property going cheap. The high profile aged brides would be in for another disappointment as the man never turns up after the investment. Though many have been plundered by this imposter only one doctor had filed a complaint and he was arrested.

According to cops, the accused was identified as Atul Sharma, a resident of Lokhandwala in Andheri (West). Twelve days ago, a 40-year-old doctor had registered a complaint with the police, claiming that she had met Mr Sharma through a matrimonial site. He then offered to marry her, saying that he was an IIT graduate and had been working for NASA as a scientist. The woman gave Mr Sharma Rs. 25 lakh, after which he disappeared. Using the mobile number that he had given the woman, cops traced the man to Oshiwara. "Sharma used to show off with expensive cars and meetings in five-star hotels. Sharma has cheated many women, including the doctor," said Police Inspector Gyaneshwar Dhanaware from the special squad. (With inputs from internet- AarKay)
