Software techie who had written a program, which could download details of credit cards on a PayPal account, is to be convicted along with his girlfriend, shortly.
The couples Edward Pearson (23) and Cassandra Mennim (21) are accused in New York for allegedly downloading details of credit card holders and using them for their luxuries. Edward is to have masterminded the crime and made software with which he had got the information. On the other hand his girl friend has been charged of utilizing the details to clear her hotel bills. Both have confessed and are due for sentencing next month. They were charged in a South Wark Court on Sunday.
Pearson confessed to having access to more than 400 compromised PayPal accounts and the illegally obtained personal details of more than eight million people. Pearson wrote the two pieces of software used to accumulate the vast amount of data discovered on the computers. Pearson pleaded guilty to one count of possession of articles for use in fraud and two counts of making or adapting an article for use in frauds. Mennim pleaded guilty to two counts of obtaining services dishonestly after the court heard she targeted the Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Lady Anne Middleton’s Hotel, both in York. All the offences were carried out between January 1, 2010, and August 30, 2011. The couple originally charged for a drug offense, where today entered not guilty pleas to the two counts.
