An Indian Yellow cab driver was arrested for raping a 26-year old, at knifepoint after tying her wrists with a scarf in the US. Gurmeet Singh (40) had been driving since 1999, but his license was suspended in 2007 for violating state Department of Motor Vehicles rules. He had no criminal history of any kind till date.

But as per the police, he was accused in the knifepoint rape of an East Village woman who trusted him for a safe ride home from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on May 6. The woman had told the police that she fell asleep after she got into Singh's cab and when she woke up, Singh allegedly held her at knifepoint and raped her. As per the victim, Singh had also stolen her mobile phone and $20 cash.

Clever cops posed as taxi inspectors trapped him after he had met them and sipped a glass of drink in the meeting. Officials informed, `He had the cup of water and we kept the cup and got his DNA.’  They matched his DNA with evidence uncovered in the police investigation of the sex assault and they matched. Singh was awaiting an arraignment hearing yesterday in Brooklyn Criminal Court.

Singh was a father of two children. His wife Tejbeer Kaur (32) was all in tears when the news broke out. She said, `Gurmeet could never attack someone. He’s not that kind of man.’ She added, `He never keeps secrets from me or his family. I’ve talked to him, and he said: ‘I don’t know why they are taking me. I’ve done nothing wrong.’

The sleuths also suspect his hand in another case of assaulting a 31-year-old woman in Harlem on Sept. 23.
