A California woman who chopped her husband and cooked his body parts shortly after marriage in 1991 is now seeking release from prison.

Omaima Nelson has been serving a life sentence for her crime at the Central California Women’s Facility at Chowchilla in California.

The dreaded killing of the 56-year-old William Nelson by Omaima Nelson was compared by officials to the murders committed by the fictional Hannibal Lecter.

Prosecutors told the court that she had killed her husband as she had killed several other middle aged men earlier. She said she killed him to escape an assault from him.

A psychiatrist testified during her trial that she told him she ate her husband’s ribs but later denied it. It is second time she was seeking bail to come out of the prison. In 2006, she tried for parole but was denied it by the courts.

Her parole submission is being heard by the Parole Commissioner today and the decision is awaited.
