Cricketer Pataudi’s condition turns critical

PataudiThe health condition of former cricket captain of India, Mr. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, 70, continues to be critical, according to a medical bulletin issued by the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi today.

Pataudi, considered as one of the finest Indian cricket captains, was admitted to the hospital last month with a severe lung infection and was on a high level of oxygen support but his cardiac function remains stable. “He is very conscious and his condition is being monitored continuously in the ICU,” said the doctors.

Despite the specialized treatment being extended to him, Pataudi's condition took a turn for the worse last week.

“He is suffering from interstitial lung disease which does not have proper or permanent cure. It takes time for the patient to recover,” said the doctors

Pataudi played 46 Test matches and scored 2,793 runs for an average of 34.91 with an unbeaten 203 being his highest score. In all, he smashed six centuries and 16 fifties in his career.
