Bollywood film producer Prakash Jha on Friday approached the Supreme Court seeking directions to some of the state governments to lift the ban imposed on his latest production ‘Aarakshan’ in which Big B Amitabh played an important role.

While Uttar Pradesh has banned the screening of the movie citing controversial references to reservations, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh Governments have imposed a temporary ban on the movie till further orders.

Punjab and Andhra Pradesh Governments have formed committees to look into the allegations that the movie contained any anti-Dalit references.

The film’s main story moves around the controversial and politically sensitive issue of reservations. The central censor board cleared it without any cuts but the chief of the Central SC, ST commission has asked for removing some of the scenes which he thinks are anti-Dalit.
