LeT militant’s death sentence upheld

arifThe Supreme Court today dismissed the petition of Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq who had challenged the death sentence awarded to him by the trial court in 2005 and confirmed by the Delhi High Court in 2007 for attacking the Red Fort on December 22, 2000 and killing three army men.

The death sentence was upheld by the apex court’s division bench consisting of Justices V.S. Sirpurkar and T.S. Thakur. “The appeal is dismissed. Death sentence upheld,” said the order simply.

Trial court of Additional Sessions Judge O.P. Saini awarded the death sentence to Arif for murder, conspiracy and waging war against the government of India.
