An unidentified right wing extremist, dressed up as cop, resorted to random firing on a youth camp of the Norway’s ruling Labour Party on the Utoeya holiday island early Saturday killing 87 people and injuring many.
The incident has taken place just hours after a bomb exploded in a building housing the Prime Minister’s office that killed 7 persons in the capital city Oslo.
Witnesses said the gunman was a 32-year-old Norwegian who was reportedly linked with the bombing that took place hours before.
Norwegian television TV2 announced the shocked police have arrested the gunman and identified him as Anders Behring Breivik. After interrogation, police recovered explosive material from several places on the island.
The bomb explosion and the random shooting of people ware the major terrorist incidents in the Western Europe since the 2004 Madrid train bombings that killed 191 persons.
