HC seeks status report on Dey’s murder

HC seeks status report on Dey s murderAdmitting a PIL seeking CBI inquiry into the killing of senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey of the Mid-day tabloid on June 11, the Mumbai High Court today asked the city police to file a status report on the investigation of the journalist’s murder by June 21.
 
The court asked the Advocate General Ravindra Kadam to be present on the next hearing of the case and allowed the advocate representing the journalists to intervene in the matter.
 
The court also clubbed together two PILs filed by a lawyer and a social activist separately seeking CBI inquiry into the killing and protection to journalists.
 
Meanwhile, the Mumbai police had detained 4 men belonging to the Chhota Shakeel gang on Wednesday suspecting their involvement in the murder of Dey but let them go on Thursday due to lack of evidence.
