Both the missiles have a strike range of 350 km each.

While ‘Dhanush’ was flight tested from a naval ship in the Bay of Bengal in a location between Paradip and Puri at 1005 hours IST,  the surface to surface ‘Prithvi-2’ missile was test-fired at 11 IST from a mobile launcher at launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, 15 km from Balasore in Orissa.

ITR Director S P Dash told media persons after the launch that both the launching missions were successful. “The launching was successfully carried out as per our precise calculations,” he said proudly.

Describing the launching exercises as routine, a top scientist of the DRDO said that both the missiles are under production after being inducted into the Armed Forces.

The launching and trajectory of missiles, having the advanced navigation and guidance systems, were monitored by a tracking network of radars, telemetry and electro-optical systems, he said, adding that both the missiles are capable of carrying out nuclear as well as conventional war heads.
