Night shifts responsible for women's menstrual irregularity:- A new research and a study said that the night shifts are directly linked to the menstrual irregularity in women and there are high chances of developing endometriosis. The results are revealed during a study that is presented at the 23rd European Congress of Endocrinology (e-ECE 2021). The study said that there is a reduction in the expression for PER-2, CRY-1 and CLOCK genes and there is an increase in REV-ERBb in ectopic. There are no published studies about the same in the past. Endometriosis is a condition where the tissues to the lining of the womb will grow in other places like ovaries and fallopian tubes. Endometriosis has been impacting 10 percent of the total population of women and girls across the globe.
The symptoms of Endometriosis will vary from women to women and it causes lot of pain and can lead to infertility, ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages. The women working in night shifts are prone to the disruption of circadian rhythm which is directly associated with the menstrual irregularity. There are high chances of developing ovarian tumours and endometriosis. Dr Narjes Nasiri-Ansari, Dr Aggeliki Karapanagioti, Professor Eva Kassi from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece conducted the study on 27 patients who had confirmed ovarian endometriosis. It is advisable for the women to stay away from night shifts.
