Tollywood producer Chillara Kalyan, suspected to have close links with Bhanu Kiran, the suspected killer of faction leader Maddelacheruvu Suri, has reportedly resorted to land grabbing in Nellore town, according to a news story published in a Telugu daily today.
The story says that 59 cents of vacant land, part of the burial ground of Muslims located in the heart of Nellore town, was grabbed by Kalyan in 2008. In the same year, he got it registered in his name.
The story goes on to say that the land was donated to Muslims in the 18th century by the then Muslim ruler Arcot Nawab to use it as burial ground and 59 cents of the burial ground was vacant. Kalyan brought some people from Tamil Nadu in 2008 who claimed to be the legal heirs of the Arcot Nawab.
Kalyan, along with them met the local registrar and told him that he bought the 59 cents of the land from them for Rs.1.10 Cr and asked him to register it in his name. Registration was done in April 2008 but the officials later suspended the registration transaction and kept it pending. But, Kalyan approached the High Court and got the transaction ratified legally, according to the daily.
Muslim elders of the Nellore town allege that the land belonged to Wakf Board and Kalyan grabbed it. They wanted the government to conduct an enquiry and take away the land from him.
