Chennai Super Kings revive against Cobras - Nokia Champions League

DhoniCSK were smarting after their defeat to Mumbai Indians and NCC were bracing themselves for a backlash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in front of a partisan home crowd. One defeat is allowed at the group stage, but if a team hopes to progress to the knockout stages, falling behind will leave it precariously placed. The match at Chennai on Wednesday placed CSK in a comfortable situation on its home grounds.

Nashua Cape Cobras who batted first scored 145 after losing seven wickets in the first twenty overs. The principle batsmen who fared well were Owais Shah who made 45 runs with his willow and Jean-Paul who scored 29 runs. The bowling damage was caused by the CSK Albie Morkel, Doug Bollinger and Dwayne Bravo who between them took two wickets each.

In reply the CSK scored 146 runs in 19.4 overs after losing five wickets. The main run getters were Dwayne Bravo who knocked a classy 46 runs and remained not out along with Mike Hussey who contributed 29 runs. The bowling hero was Jean-Paul Duminy who bagged four top wickets of the CSK.

The Super Kings won by four wickets in a tense finish and two balls to spare after restricting the Cobras to 145 although the South African champions looked certain to post a 160-plus total. But the man of the day was Brawo who bagged two wickets in addition to his splendid knock of 46 runs.

The CSK skipper Dhoni said bowling has never been our strength, but we have always come back strongly. Today, we bowled well in the last four overs to restrict Cobras. He added I thought we did not rotate strike enough today. We were more intent on the big shots and lost wickets.

Cobras skipper Justin Kemp opined that his team poor batting in the last four overs cost them the match and though Jean-Paul Duminy bowled well.

Match winner Brawo said it was a lot of hard work out there. I basically backed myself and my captain Dhoni. We stayed calm and knew that one big over could change the game.
