Hasina declares open the 2011 World Cup

Hasina, 2011 World CupBangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today declared open the 2011 Cricket World Cup at a glittering and colorful ceremony at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

“I declare open the 2011 Cricket World Cup,’ she said amid thunderous applause by thousands of cricket lovers who thronged the stadium to witness the opening extravaganza. She then touched the scanner that sett off series of breathtaking fireworks to mark the inauguration.

“I congratulate the cricket loving public for their cooperation and participation to make this function a grand success,” she said.

The Prime Minister thanked the International Cricket Council (ICC) for selecting Bangladesh as one of the hosts. The world cup is being co-hosted by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

ICC President Sharad Pawar called it a “historic” day saying that it will always be remembered as a golden day in the history of cricket.
