Nokia apologizes for 'lying' on TV

Yesterday Nokia had revealed its latest and much hyped Nokia Lumia 920 Windows 8 mobile phone which was released after its collaboration with Microsoft for the latest range of mobiles in the Lumia range. The advertisement of the mobile phone which shows the Lumia 920 specs however was not entirely true.

Nokia had formally apologized on its official website saying that the video footage, flaunted as one shot from the Lumia 920 smarphone itself was not actually from the phone. The advertisement intended to depict the capabilities of the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) which enables blur free images be shot. The apology came after The Verge had pointed out the mistake. Immediately the Finnish mobile maker mentioned on its blog post that an 'Apology is due'. It also mentioned that it "should have posted a disclaimer stating this was a representation of OIS only" which was not shot from the Nokia Lumia 920 itself.

Later it apologized, "In an effort to demonstrate the benefits of optical image stabilization (which eliminates blurry images and improves pictures shot in low light conditions), we produced a video that simulates what we will be able to deliver with OIS.

Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but we should have posted a disclaimer stating this was a representation of OIS only. This was not shot with a Lumia 920. At least, not yet. We apologize for the confusion we created."

Soon after the apology, a blog from a Finnish writer said that the still images shown on the ad were also fake and were falsely advertising the Nokia Lumia 920 specs of the low light performance of the PureView camera on the phone.

Youssed Sarhan on his blog sefsar.com mentioned that the pictures flaunted could not have been shot with Lumia 920 which has a f/2 aperture in the camera. In one picture he mentions that the spikes radiated from a light source could diffract in such a way only with f/22 apertures possible with only DSLRs.
