Apple, the technology giant, has yet another trick up its sleeve-The iPad Mini. Apple has recently expressed that it would soon be releasing its smaller version of the existing iPad in Autumn.
This new smaller yet mean machine is expected to be less than 8 inches measured diagonally which is almost 2 inches smaller than the present iPad.
It had been designed to compete with its rival in the cheaper tablet division, Google. Google's Nexus 7 is currently for sale at $159 and sources from Apple say iPad mini would also be in the same price segment.
When asked about the release date, the intentionally ambiguous answer was “very near”.
Late Steve Jobs, Apple's co-founder was stubbornly against the concept of a smaller iPad. However according to the prediction of analysts, The Mini would be out in the second half of the year. Analyst Shaw Wu has predicted that this could be the worst nightmare for competitors, obviously quoting the Android market. In his words “The ball is in Apple's court.”.
Google Nexus 7 is an Android OS based tablet with a High Definition 7 inch screen and a Quad Core Tegra 3 Processor and weighs just 340gms. Would the new iPad Mini outrun the Google Nexus 7? We have to wait and see.
