Marriage Rules Meant to be Broken

Some say that couples should never sleep over a fight. We say, "It's 2014!" Meaning it's high time to debunk the outdated marriage myths and go for a reality check. If you truly want a long, successful and fulfilling marriage, you, for one, have to trash the outdated, and some downright damaging “marriage rules” like doing everything together, working out every disagreement instead of fighting, sleeping in the same bed and never ever getting bored of your partner. Today, we bring to you some rules of marriage that should be broken for a happy marriage to thrive. Read  on.

Never sleep over a fight

No matter how one may advise you to stay up and finish a fight or solve a disagreement before you hit the sack, know that trying to work through a problem when you are stressed and angry won't take you anywhere. Rather, you should “Agree to disagree for now, and to revisit the issue when you’re rested.” That is the ultimate prescription for a happy marriage.

Honesty is the best policy

Pay heed. No-holds-barred honesty is never, ever the best policy. You don’t really need to share details of your past relationships. What is done cannot be undone, and what is gone, why waste your present ruing or even talking about it.  The bottom line: You need to be polite and caring when it comes to your partner’s feelings.

Never sleep in separate beds

It’s seriously a myth that couples always sleep better together than apart. One partner may be a toss-and-turner or one may hit the hay early while the other keeps a reading light burning till the wee hours. So if one of you occasionally moves to the guest room, there is nothing to fret about. “Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial to the health of your mind, body and marriage,” says Dr. Lombardo, a marriage expert. Just ensure that a separate-bed habit doesn't deter with your sex or physical intimacy.
