All About Krishna Janmashtami 2020:- Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated across the country in a grand manner on the eve of Lord Krishna's birthday. He was born on Ashtami, the eighth day in Krishna Paksha. It is on the new moon phase of Bhadrapada. This falls usually during August or September every year. Lord Krishna is the eighth child of his parents Vasudeva and Devaki. Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated this year on August 11th and some of them even celebrate this on the next day. Dahi Handi is the popular festive celebrated on Krishna Janmashtami in Mumbai. The organizers of Dahi Handi called off all the celebrations because of the ongoing coronavirus.

People across the country make some popular Jhankis at home. It is an imaginative creation of Vrindavan village in which Krishna was born. These display the idols of Krishna and Yasodha. Along with these idols, plants, calves, cows idols are used. Families pray to Lord Krishna on this auspicious day and sing bhajans. Some of them share the stories of Lord Krishna and fast throughout the day. Mathura and Vrindavan witness massive celebrations on Krishna Janmashtami. There are 16 steps of puja that are part of the Shodashopachara puja vidhi that is performed in the midnight.

Krishna Janmashtami tithi falls on August 11th and nisita puja time falls on August 12th between 12:21 AM and 1:06 AM. Ashtami tithi starts at 9:06 AM on August 11th and it ends on August 12th at 11:16 AM. Dahi Handi is on August 12th. The idols of Krishna are washed and clothed. Some of them place these idols in a cradle.
