Diabetics reduce heart attack risks by loosing weight

Diabetics is the fast emerging killer disease globally. However study reveals that obese people with Type 2 lose excess baggage due to the stringent diet plan. And this reduction aids the patient by lowering the risk of heart attacks. The Sydney study clarified that even if six kilos is lost, it will reduce the artery thickness by 20 percent, which in turn lowers the heart ailment.  But as per the present standards Diabetics accounts for six-fold greater risk of heart disease, which accounts for 68 percent of deaths in diabetic patients.

The Journal of Diabetics and Vascular Disease Research noted that Associate Prof Katherene Samaras from Garvan Institute of Medical Research and Christopher Hayward from St. Vincent's Hospital have quoted that arterial stiffness is directly tied with inflammation and immune response to infection or illness. The two professors conducted the study on a group of obese people suffering from Type 2 diabetics or pre-diabetes. The group was given a calorie-restricted diet for 24 weeks, with gastric banding surgery after 12 weeks, according to a statement Garvan and St. Vincent Hospital.

The journal quoted Professor Samaras:

We found that the degree of inflammation in fat tissue specifically predicted how much arteries relaxed during a weight loss programme, meaning that people with higher levels of inflammation had arteries that did not relax as much. Obesity, Type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis are all associated with an inflammatory state, involving activation of immune cells in the circulation and in fat tissue, as well as an increase of circulating pro-inflammatory molecules. Weight loss reduces immune cell activation and inflammation, which in turn is related to the extent that arteries can relax. To our knowledge, this is the first study to examine the relationships between weight loss-induced improvements in arterial stiffness and the immune response. -  (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
