Sorse Maach is a Bengali fish preparation. Cooked in mustard oil, this preparation of fish has a dominant taste of mustard seeds. It's a simple fish curry in mustard gravy. Try this fish recipe at home and enjoy a sumptious meal.
Ingredients
600 grams Fish, cut into thick slices of ½ inch
1 tbsp Mustard seeds
3 tbsp Mustard oil
1 cup Coconut Milk
1 tsp Panch Phoran
3/4 tsp Turmeric powder
2 Onion, finely chopped
1 inch Ginger
5 cloves Garlic
2-3 Green Chilli
2 tbsp Vinegar
Salt according to taste
Method
Step 1: Sprinkle salt and ¼ tsp turmeric powder over the sliced fish and coat evenly.
Step 2: Take a non stick pan and heat 1 tbsp mustard oil in it. Add sliced ginger and garlic to the pan and saute. Take the green chillies and break them before adding into the pan along with the mustard seeds. Now add the vinegar and remove from heat. Grind this mixture into a fine paste.
Step 3: Take another non stick pan and heat the remaining mustard oil in it. Now add the finely chopped onions and paanch phoron into the oil and saute. Next add the finely ground paste and mix. Pour ½ cup water into the pan, also add the remaining turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
Step 4: Let it simmer for some time. Then add coconut milk and mix. Now add the sliced fish pieces and cover the pan. Cook till the fish is tender.
Tastes best when served hot with steamed rice.
