The death of a beloved grandmother was announced with a winking face emoji, in a local Spanish newspaper.
Reportedly, the 75-year-old Carmen Bustamante Barango had told her children that, after her death, she wanted to be remembered in El Periodico de Catalunya with her favorite symbol.
After she died at her home in Barcelona, her children put her wish into action, announcing her death on newspaper with the said emoji. “She finished her journey - in this world - at her home,” the notice read.

Speaking about Carmen, Roman Zabal, her son said, “She was a character and a great mother who never stopped being a child.”
He said that, the woman used to communicate with her children through WhatsApp and that the winking face emoji was her favorite. The cause of her death is unknown.
“She wasn’t religious and told us that, if any [religious] symbols ... appeared, she would come back to life and come looking for us,” Zabal added.
