The Union NDA government has launched a Biometric Attendance System [BAS] for government employees and also a portal Attendance.gov.in has been launched to keep a track on the attendance records. The Attendance IDs of employees will be generated from their Aadhaar numbers. The 6 digit number will be generated based on the last 6 or first 6 digits of the person's Aadhaar number. Aadhaar number is essential for registering an employee in BAS.

Right from day one, NDA government has been pushing government employees to be punctual and on several occasions, few central ministers checked their respective offices. Employees were forced to keep a day leave who failed to come on time and with this introduction of BAS, ministers can now have through look at employees work hours.
