Former PM PV Narasimha Rao, who has driven India from a starving state to sufficient state, will be honoured by the NDA government despite his own party (Indian National Congress) disowned him even before his death. This move is an embarrassing decision for Congress party as it had not even shown respect and attention to perform his last rites in Delhi.
The architect of the economic reforms in 1990’s, will be honoured with a memorial ghat at Ekta Sthal Samadhi Complex. Urban Development ministry reportedly moved a proposal for cabinet approval in last week to build the memorial to the former PM and harbinger of economic liberalisation.
The governments of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states urging centre to respect the services rendered by him. The legislature of Telangana state passed a resolution for awarding Bharat Ratna title, while the government of Andhra Pradesh moved a resolution to build a memorial for Rao, who hailed from Vangara of Karimnagar district in Telangana, and represented by many constituencies in present AP, Orissa, and Maharashtra.
The proposed memorial ghat would be built at Ekta Sthal, where the memorial of Congress loyalist Giani Zail Singh housed. While, the last rites of PV ware performed in Hyderabad, with state honours in December 2004.
Former PM Manmohan Singh was then Finance Minster who is credited with economic liberalization introducer together with PV. Former President APJ Abdul Kalam described Rao as "patriotic statesman who believed that the nation is bigger than the political system".
