Modi Inaugurates India’s Longest Bridge In Assam:- On the third anniversary of his taking over as Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi has inaugurated India’s longest bridge, the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge on the Brahmaputra at Sadiya in Assam.

The bridge stretching over 9.15 kilometers will reduce the travel time between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from six hours to just one hour as the distance will shrink by 165 kms. It has a three lane carriage way and connects Sadia town in Assam's Tinsukia district with Dhola village in Arunachal Pradesh across the river. Apart from this, Modi will also inaugurate a slew of projects in the state. The PM will also address a rally in Guwahati.

Yesterday, Modi said that he would be in Assam today to take part in various programmes. He tweeted yesterday night :

“I will be in Assam tomorrow to take part in various programmes. I am eagerly awaiting this opportunity to interact with people of Assam.”

The PM led BJP to a massive victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, and was sworn-in as the prime minister on May 26 that year.

The PM after the inauguration is expected to proceed to lay the foundation stone for Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) at Gogamukh in Northern Assam’s Dhemaji district . Ar around 1:50 pm, Modi is expected to leave for Guhawati, where he will lay the foundation stone of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the first such institute come up in the Northeast, he had said in another tweet.

Earlier in a series of tweets, he even described the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge as one of the most important infrastructure projects to be undertaken in India.

Information About The Bridge:

The bridge has been constructed across the Rivers Brahmaputra and Lohit and connects Dhola with Sadiya in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district. Under the aegis of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in public private partnership (PPP) with Navayuga Engineering Company Limited, the construction of the bridge started in 2011.

The bridge was scheduled to become operational from 2015, but the finish of construction works was delayed. The project is estimated to cost around 10 billion rupees and taken about six years for its completion.

It is expected that the bridge is 3.55 kilometers or 2.21 miles longer than the Bandra Worli Sea Link in Mumbai, making it the longest bridge in India above water. B. Surya Raju, chief project manager, under the supervision of K. Jagadishwara Rao, Director, Navayuga Engineering Company Limited, Hyderabad were the construction expert team for the bridge.

Along with a two-lane connecting road from Dhola Bazaar to Islampur Tiniali, the bridge is a 12.9-metre-wide or 42 feet external post tensioned one with 183 spans each of 50 meters or 160 feet).

The benefits of the bridge are as follows:

- Construction of this bridge will enhance the production activities, and will a result of facilitated marketable surplus and checking price distortion. It will expedite industrial investments.

- It will provide access to health and educational facilities.

- It will promote tourism in the region.

- It will increase in border trade between Arunachal and other South ASEAN Countries.
