BJP's Sumitra Mahajan has been elected as Lok Sabha speaker short while ago. She is the second female Speaker of the Lower House after Meira Kumar. Home Minister Rajanth Singh has proposed Sumitra's candidature and about 19 parties have supported her name. Pro-tem Speaker Kamal Nath has declared that Sumitra as the new Lok Sabha speaker.
