Revanth Reddy gets nod from Centre for RRR to turn NH:- The southern portion of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR), which spans 182 kilometers and passes through Choutuppal, Amangal, Shadnagar, and Sangareddy, is set to be designated as a national highway by the government. This comes after the recent announcement declaring the northern section of the RRR, which stretches 158 kilometers, as a national highway. On Tuesday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy requested Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to also declare the southern part of the RRR as a national highway. Gadkari responded positively to the Chief Minister's request and instructed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to develop proposals for declaring the southern section of the RRR as a national highway.

This declaration will allow the government to cover the project cost and 50% of the land acquisition costs. Additionally, Gadkari agreed to cover the expenses, amounting to nearly Rs 200 crore, for relocating utilities that are obstructing the construction of the northern part of the RRR. During their discussion, the Chief Minister and the Union Minister also addressed the ongoing dispute between the Centre and Telangana regarding the removal of utilities along the alignment of the RRR's northern part, specifically from Choutuppal to Kandi via Bhuvangiri and Toopran. The government was requested to cover the expenses of relocating the utilities. However, the state government refused to agree, resulting in an ongoing deadlock.
After assuming his position in December 2023, Revanth Reddy wrote a letter to the NHAI, stating that he would take responsibility for the costs of moving the utilities. On Tuesday, Gadkari questioned NHAI officials about the matter and reprimanded them for expecting the state government to cover the shifting expenses. Gadkari explained that if the state government were to bear the costs, half of the toll revenue would have to be given to them. Gadkari assured Revanth Reddy that the central government would cover the expenses of relocating the utilities and urged him to expedite the land acquisition and procedural processes for the construction of the RRR. During the meeting, which lasted approximately one-and-a-half hours, Revanth Reddy highlighted the difficulties faced in expanding national highways.
