Narendra Modi urges the states to reduce the prices of VAT on Fuels:- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of high fuel prices in the Indian states which are ruled by the opposition parties. Narendra Modi asked the state governments of these states to reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel to work in cooperative federalism in this global crisis. He said that the states are not passing the benefits to the people and they are doing injustice to the neighboring states. Narendra Modi also said that he made a request for West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand to reduce the VAT but the states did not do so.

He made these remarks during his review meeting of Covid-19 with the Chief Ministers. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee interacted with the media after the Prime Minister's interaction and she called the meeting misleading and it was one-sided. She told that the facts shared by Narendra Modi were wrong. She said that Modi kept praising the states that are ruled by the BJP. Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the contribution of Maharashtra is 38.3 percent and the GST collection share is 15 percent. Telangana Chief Minister KCR said that the state government never hiked the prices of fuel since 2014 and the Centre has no right to ask the government of Telangana to reduce the taxes.
