Cheetah-Inspired Logo Chosen For India’s Bullet Train Project:- Designed by a student of National Institute of Design (NID), a cheetah-inspired logo has been chosen for India’s bullet train project. The outline of a cheetah on a locomotive engine, was chosen by a three-member panel, headed by renowned painter and architect Satish Gujral, as the top choice for the ambitious bullet train project.
A cheetah on a train was created by the student for the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL). The NHSRCL is a joint venture between the state government and the Centre to implement the high-speed train projects in India.
An official from the Indian Railways told a leading news paper that an overwhelming response from across the country has been received for the contest to design a logo. “The dates for submitting the applications were between April 19 and May 18, and around 100 entries were received by the committee from various states,” he said.
The speed is represented by the speed and calm and reliability is symbolized by the red and blue lines, he further added.
“Three entries were shortlisted after initial screening. The top entry was selected from NID, Ahmedabad, the second from the School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi, and the third from the NID in Bengaluru,” said the official.
The Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed rail network is likely to commence operations on August 15, 2022 on the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. A stretch of 508 kilometers between Ahmedabad and Mumbai will be covered by the bullet train, in about two hours. The proposed stations are Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati currently.
The train will begin underground from the Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai and travel 21 kilometres through a tunnel, seven kilometres of which will be under the sea, before emerging over ground at Thane. The train is expected to ferry nearly 700 passengers in one round. If the bullet train stops at only Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Mumbai, the distance will be covered in two hours and seven minutes, and it will cover the distance in about two hours and 58 minutes, if it stops at all the proposed stations.
