Two Flood Gates Of Srisailam Project Opened:- In a recent development, letting out 56000 cusecs of flood water on Thursday, the flood gates of the Srisailam project were lifted.

After performing formal Puja at the dam site, the gates were opened by AP Minister for Irrigation Devineni Uma Maheswar Rao who visited the Srisailam project along with the Engineering officials. An inflow of 1,40,818 cusecs is being received by the project, while its water level touched this morning 884.5 ft as against the full reservoir level (FRL) of 885 tmc. Three of the spill gates would be lifted to let out 84,000 cusecs, said the Srisalam Chief Engineer, Narayana Reddy on Wednesday. But, there were change in the AP plans and only two of the gates ( No 6 and 7 ) were lifted this morning.

Initially, Mr. Reddy said that as some 80,000 cusecs were being released through the power house channels, there may not be any need to operate the flood gates. But the inflow continued to more than the outflow and the AP irrigation officials were left with no choice to retain more than the gross capacity of the dam.

After a gap of three years, the project is full to the brim and it holds hope for Nagarjuna sagar project and its command area spread over Nalgonda, Suryapet and Khammam distrcts in Telangana and Krishna, Guntur and Prakasham in Andhra Pradesh.

So far this year, no water was released from either the NSP Left Canal or The NSP Right Canal for irrigation. Today morning, the inflow into Nagarjuna Sagar were in the order of 74614 cusecs. As against the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 590 ft, the project level is still at 528.2 ft.
