More cyclone shelters for coastal districtsVIJAYAWADA: The Central Government has decided to construct more cyclone shelters in the coastal areas of the state with the World Bank funds. The disaster management project will be implemented in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts in the state. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has cleared the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project (NCRMP).
 
Speaking at a review meeting here on Tuesday, NCRMP project director B Rajendra Prasad said it includes development of infrastructure and provision of training to personnel in disaster management and creation of an awareness among people about precautions to be taken to mitigate cyclone loss in coastal areas.
 
The early warning system and communication network in coastal areas will also be strengthened as part of the project. In the second phase, construction of cyclone shelters and development of infrastructure in coastal villages will be taken up.
