This a story of a teacher, who was not only remembered by her students but also saved by them from certain homelessness. Annapurna Shastri of Vidyaranya High School in Hyderabad taught many good lessons to her students and decades later they returned like a family.
Annapurna Shastri was forced out of her house by relatives that she took care of for nearly 40 years, reported Deccan Chronicle. She had been staying at her sister's house, but only saw selfishness in return. After her oust from the house, she took shelter at an old age home. While she was suffering from ill health, the old age home also announced its closure.
Life turned dark and uncertain for this respected teacher, before Nandini Rao of Vidyaranya High School came to know about the teacher's predicament. With the help of others on the Alumni, she immediately took Shastri under her care. The students together paid for her hip surgery and offered her a place at the school.
Speaking to DC, Nandini Rao said that she wanted to give something back to her teachers and not just a sweet box. “No matter what we do now for our teachers, it will be less. I believe that I was just doing my duty as a student,” she added.
Annapurna Shastri, who is now happily staying in a private room at Vidyaranya, told the newspaper that she is not able find words to describe her gratitude. “I remember telling my students that they may one day forget my face, but shouldn’t forget my lessons. But today, I’m glad and they forgot neither. God bless them,” the teacher said.
Happy Teacher's day!
