Competition seems to be running high in the festive season between Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalli Chettu and Naayak. The state had given a grand welcome to both these films which is surprising in the Tollywood's history. The former is a multi starer with 'Victory' Venaktesh and 'Prince Mahesh Babu, it is a tale of sentiments and human values. On the other hand, the second is an action entertainer with 'Mega Power Star' Ram Charn in the lead. The film has a right bled of all the ingredients to make a successful masala flick.
Naayak released on 1200 screens, globally collected Rs 9 crores, on the first day and in the first week grossed Rs 32 crores. However Charan's fans re sure to feel bad that it could not cross Pawan Kalyan's Gabbar Singh’s record of Rs 36 crores in the first week. SVSC released globally on a lesser number of screens raked in Rs 28 crores in the first six days, instilling confidence among the producers that multistarers are sure to click in the present scenario. These records are all unofficial but the craze for the two seems to be still on. The irony is that SVSC got mixed response in the beginning, but is going steady with steep increase on a day-to-day basis.
Naayak has Kajal Agarwal and Amala Paul paired with Charan. The story revolves around a software techie, Cherry, once Siddharth Naik with a violent past. How he overcomes his foes is the best part of the film. Music by Thaman was hard enough to retain fans in seats. However violence was a bit overdose in this film which is estimated to establish new records at the ticket counter. Filmmaker V V Vinayak has woven the storyline which had all ingredients fit for a masala lunch.
On the other hand, SVSC produced by 'Dil' Raju, has fresh face Anjali and Tollywood's lucky mascot Samantha Ruth Prabhu paired with the stars. Prakash Raj dons a prominent role as a man who adores relationships and respects human values. As his sons, the heroes follow the footsteps of their father. Music by Mickey J Meyer is heart rendering. The film was short of some extended strips of comedy. However the melodrama and Anjali's love attempts to attract Venkatesh compensates. SVSC is a bedtime light meal with a delicious dessert that aid for a peaceful sleep.
After the festive celebrations are over, it is now time for families that prefer peaceful viewing to occupy the theatres. Now this is a phase that shall bring out the real winner in the two, say filmi pundits. (Wishesh AarKay)
