TTV Dinakaran Gets Bail In “Two Leaves” Bribery Case:- The ousted AIADMK Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran, and his close friend Mallikarjuna have been granted bail by the Delhi Court today in the “two leaves” bribery case.
The decision on the bail petition was deferred on Wednesday by the court, as the stenographers were on leave. The bail was granted on a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh each. Moreover, the court has asked them to surrender their passports.
Following four days of questioning, for allegedly attempting to bribe an unidentified Election Commission official to get the undivided AIADMK’s “two leaves” election symbol for his faction, Dinakaran was arrested on the night of April 25 by the Delhi Police crime branch.
Dinakaran sought the bail on the ground that there was no reason to keep him in custody and no public servant was made an accused in the case though he was booked on graft charges. However, the police had opposed his bail. It said that the AIADMK leader conspired with others to undermine the sanctity of the electoral process through corrupt means and practices.
The police had earlier said that the alleged middleman of Dinakaran, Sukesh Chandrasekhar had struck a deal for the Rs 50 crore, to help the AIADMK faction get the “two leaves” symbol. When he was arrested from a five-star hotel in Delhi on April 16, he had Rs 1.30 crore in cash in his possession.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madhur Verma had said, Dinakaran was arrested for allegedly arranging the amount from undisclosed sources and getting it transferred to Delhi from Chennai through illegal channels.
His close friend, Mallikarjuna was arrested for allegedly helping Dinakaran transfer this money.
Dinakaran who was appointed as the Deputy General Secretary by AIADMK chief V K Sasikala, has been ousted from his party amid the merger of rival factions led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami and his predecessor O Panneerselvam.
The Sasikala-Dinakaran leadership was revolted by a powerful section of the AIADMK (Amma). The development came after Panneerselvam, who is leading the rival faction, demanded the ouster of Sasikala and Dinakaran as a condition for merger talks.
