According to the sources, Delhi police have arrested a suspected member of the terrorist outfit al-Qaeda, in Bengaluru.
Maulana Anzar Shah, the alleged member of the terror group, was arrested on last night, the police sources said.
He was allegedly plotted to carry out a series of terror strikes in the country. “The aim of the group was to attack some prominent leaders, along with the crowded and tourist places,” the sources said.
The alleged terrorist, Anzar Shah, has been brought to Delhi on transit remand, and would be produced in the Patiala House court, today.
The Special Cell wing of Delhi Police has arrested Anzar Shah, through the ongoing operation, against al-Qaeda, in the Indian sub-continent (AQIS).
In the last month, the Special Cell had arrested two AQIS operatives Zafar Masood and Abdul Rehman. After interrogating those two terrorists, Shah’s name was out, the reports say.
Aiming more guns at Shah, through the interrogation, Mohammed Asif, another terrorist in custody, who is the recruitment and training head of AQIS, had said that, he met Shah, at a religious congregation in Bengaluru, sources added.
When Shah was contacted by the AQIS operatives, he reportedly reactivated himself to provide logistical support to them.
If the sources are to be believed, the Special Cell even has the details of the financial transactions, between AQIS operatives and Shah.
