Tirupathi is selected for the ‘Smart City’ project, getting a sense of respite. The temple town was not just selected randomly, but it met the tough parameters placed by the center and earned its place. The Central Business District (CBD) accommodates educational, cultural, commercial and religious centers along with residential areas.
The area spread over 2,710 acres is chosen for retrofitting, which is bound by NTR Circle-Alipiri-Ramanuja Circle-Tiruchanur Road, parts of the newly-merged T.N.Palem, MR Palle and Rajiv Nagar Panchayat.
The retrofit decision has a backing from public. Recently, MCT Commissioner V. Vinaychand submitted the uproposals for the second round. Vinaychand said, “The idea is to make frugal investment and reap the maximum benefit.”
“A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with a whopping Rs.1447 crore will be constituted soon to execute the project,” Mr. Vinaychand added.
The Centre and State/MCT will allot Rs.500 crore each. Additionally, plans are there to accommodate Rs.26 crore from Swacch Bharat, Rs.150 crore from TTD, Rs.127 crore from AMRUT, Rs.26 crore from MNRE (solar power).Soon, Tirupati can expect to start reaping the ‘smart benefits’, which include RTC central bus station to have world-class facility; Parking lots in five areas; Solar panels in 11.33 ha. to cater to 10 p.c. of energy need; 27,000 new water connections; Smart water metering to check losses; Sewage water monitoring through GPS technology; Underground electric cables to be laid at Rs. 325 cr.
