“13 farmers died in a single day in Telangana state, across the five districts,” the report stated.
On one side, the Telangana government is taking all the possible steps to control the farmers deaths in the state, on the other side, the day by day deaths of the farmers are increasing in the state. 13 deaths in a single day might be the first of its kind in the dual Telugu states.
Reacting to the issue, the Telangana government increased the ex-gratia from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh to the dead farmers. Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao suggested the distressed farmers, to approach the district administrations for any kind of help, and also assured the possible support from the government.
“Every farmer suicide case will be investigated well and the final report would be sent to the government for the possible help”, Irrigation minister further said.
Out of the 13 farmer deaths, four were reported from Warangal district. J. Yaakayya, a 50 year old man of Muripirala village in Rayaparti mandal died of cardiac arrest, after coming to know that, his cotton crop was destroyed by the heavy rainfall.
In another separate incident, S. Srinivas, 50 of Gavicherla village of Sangem mandal, who has just one acre of land, but full of debts, committed suicide by consuming the pesticide, after knowing that, his cotton crop was destroyed by the heavy rains.
Seetharam Naik, Mahbubabad MP visited Srinivas family at the MGM hospital and assured the support from the government.
Sania Mirza, Jwala Gutta adopted farmers families in Telangana.
It seems, farmers suicides in the country is a never ending issue. So not just ending with the ex-gratia on the spot, it would be better, if the government adopts the families of the farmers, who committed suicides. However, star players like Sania Mirza and Jwala Gutta came forward to adopt the farmers’ families in Telagana state.
So unlike Gramjyothi, which is to adopt the whole village, adopting the farmers families, might not be a big burden to the celebrities. Hope all such celebrities, who are financially comfortable, comes forward to adopt the farmers’ families.
