Telangana is second highest in farmer suicides

Telangana is the second highest state in farmer suicides in the country, while surprisingly Andhra Pradesh stands in the eight position in the category.

Telangana, which is actually claimed to be the wealthiest state by a few of the Telangana leaders, now is recorded the second position in terms of the suicides, while Sikkim stood first. These facts were out through National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

As per the reports, 9623 farmers had committed suicide in Telangana state, where the rate stands at 26.5. To the shock, national average for suicide rate stands at 10.6. The highest suicide rate of 38.4 is recorded in Sikkim. Along with these, UTs Puducherry (40.4) and Andaman & Nicobar (28.9) are not an exception to occupy a significant place in the list.

What are the reasons for farmers suicides in Telangana?

When the actual reasons behind the suicides are studied, most of the farmers are committing suicide due to illness As per the (1,980), family problems (1,526), poverty (839), bankruptcy and indebtedness (419), marriage-related issues (227), unemployment (201), professional or career problems (163), love failure (138), addiction or drug abuse (119), failure in exams (97) and property disputes (13).

When it comes to profession, the maximum suicides in Telangana were reported from the agriculture sector (1,347) followed by business (1,017), housewives (725) and students (353).

Hope the problem solves soon with the better concentration of the Telangana government on the issue.
