The suspense finally ended on Monday night when Nitish Kumar announced the new Chief Minister of Bihar. Minister for Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes, Jitan Ram Manjhi, legislator from Makhdumpur in Jehanabad district of central Bihar, will be the new chief minister.
Manjhi is one of the strongest dalit leaders in Bihar and played a crucial role in taking Nitish's welfare schemes to the general public. Soon after Manjhi's name was announced, Nitish Kumar, Sharad Yadav took him and met Bihar Governor in order to stake claim to a new government.
Speaking to the media Manjhi said, “Nitish's decision to step down is absolutely right but I will follow his footsteps in providing good governance to the people of Bihar.”
Manjhi is expected to take oath as CM on Tuesday.
