Indian Government announced five days' State mourning condoling for Nelson Mandela after a special Cabinet meeting was convened.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari said, “Mandela was the tallest leader of not only his generation but possibly this entire paradigm. The role that he personally played in dismantling the apartheid is something exemplary.”
He further said, “The entire nation is one with the South African people in condoling his sad demise. The Cabinet met on Friday and passed a resolution condoling the death of Dr Nelson Mandela and it has been decided that there would be five days’ state mourning...,” he said.
Indian Government has paid homage to Nelson Mandela an icon for anti apartheid in the Parliament today. Indian Government honored Mandela with Bharat Ratna the highest honor of the country given in 1990 for the first time for a Non-Indian national.
