Center asked to extend time for digitization

The Chief Minister of Anhdra Pradesh Kiran Kumar Reddy today wrote a letter asking Center to extend time for one month more to digitize the cable service in the State. Today in fact is the last day to get a set top box (STB) to get the TV programs through cable. Cable operators were busy providing STBs to the consumers of their area. But as per the rough estimate only 30% of the consumers in the State have got STBs at present.

Because of rush as TV entertainment stole hearts of the house wives and became one of the necessities, STBs are being sold at exorbitant rates and also sub standard STBs bought from China in bulk that do not comply with the standards of electronic gadgets for safety of users from radiation and other hazards are supplied at a higher rate than it should be.

An answer for the letter of Kiran Kumar is expected by evening today but as the word goes, time may not be extended. This made the cable operators busier and richer.
