Cyclone Neelam is moving at a speed of 110 kilometres per hour and is currently 140 kilometres off the coast as on 03.20 pm on Wednesday. The meteorological department officials have said that Neelam cyclone is most likely to make a land fall between 4.30 and 5 pm near Chennai coast. The officials have also said that this cyclone might turn into supercyclone when it reaches the coast.

Wild tides have been reported in almost all coastal places especially in Chennai coast. All arrangements are reportedly in place to avoid untoward situations when Nilam cyclone makes landfall. The government in Tamil Nadu and also in Andhra Pradesh warned fishermen not to venture into the sea. Winds in coastal areas are blowing at a speed of 60-80 kilometres per hour. The officials were unable to ascertain as to how long the effect of cyclone would prevail in Tamil Nadu and in some parts of Andhra Pradesh.
