Cyclone Neelam is currently 270 kilometres off Chennai coast. The meteorological department officials have said that this cyclone is slowly heading towards the coast and is most likely to make a landfall between Kadalore and Nellore by Wednesday evening. In the wake of cyclone alert, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu states took all measures to ensure that there would no damage due to Neelam cyclone.  The sources said that in all 22 districts of Tamil Nadu, the schools have been kept closed.

When the cyclone makes a landfall, tides would turn wild and reach upto 1.5 metres height, said officials. Also, gusty winds would blow at a speed of 65 kilometres per hour when cyclone hits the coast. While warning fishermen not to venture into the sea, the officials are also asking people not to go near sea coast.
