No bulk SMS for 15 days starting today in Karnataka, AP

With the numbers of people from the North East fleeing Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and other states like Maharashtra, the Union Home Ministry had placed a ban on sending bulk SMS, and bulk MMS in view of the riots that are taking place. The ban would be in effect starting today on Friday.

The mha ban states that no individual can forward a message to more than 5 others at once. The size limit of the MMS have also been restricted to 25kb.

Assam government had sent ministers from the state to Bangalore and Hyderabad from the state after the exodus mentioned by the Bangalore news. The primary reason for the exodus as revealed by the Intelligence Bureau, IB, was found to be a few doctored SMS that asked the “natives of the North East to leave Bengaluru by August 20”. The police have however dismissed that they were baseless rumors and nothing more. The citizens from the North East would be provided protection and are safe from the attacks, police officials said, asserting the worried natives of the sister states who were ready to flee the state.

Tarun Gogoi, the Cheif Minister for Assam had also arranged for an all party meeting in his Dispur office chamber to ponder the situation.
