Basavaraj Bommai takes Oath as the New Chief Minister of Karnataka:- After lot of speculations, BS Yediyurappa submitted his resignation recently and the Governor approved his resignation. He announced that he would support the party. Basavaraj Bommai has been named as the new Chief Minister of the state and he took his oath today morning at 11 AM. Basavaraj Bommai happens to be a close aide of BS Yediyurappa and the former Home Minister of Karnataka. Basavaraj Bommai is a mechanical engineer and came from a family of politicians. He worked in Tata Motors in Pune for three years before he turned into a businessman and a politician. Basavaraj Bommai too comes from Lingayat community and he was elected for the Legislative Council of Karnataka in 1998. Basavaraj Bommai joined BJP in 2008. He has prior experience of serving the portfolios like Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation, and Water Resources.

The 61-year-old is now elected as the 30th Chief Minister of Karnataka and he is expected to rule the state till the Assembly elections that are planned to take place in 2023. Basavaraj Bommai is soft spoken and is away from controversies and he kept a clean image in the party. His father SR Bommai worked as the 11th Chief Minister of Karnataka and he was the founder of Janata Dal in Karnataka. Arvind Bellad is the other candidate considered as the successor for Yediyurappa. Basavaraj Bommai will have several immediate challenges in the state and the first one is to tackle the situation of coronavirus pandemic in Karnataka. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath taking ceremoney of Basavaraj Bommai today. He then performed a puja a Vidhana Soudha. He said that Covid-19 and floods are the major challenges ahead.
